US 41 Corridor: Scheuring Road Interchange

Client

Wisconsin Department of Transportation (NE Region)

Location

Brown County, WI

Total Estimated Cost

$15 Million

As part of a design team, DAAR provided design services on this freeway expansion project. DAAR’s responsibilities included preliminary and final design of the County F (Scheuring Road) interchange. In addition to the interchange work, DAAR was responsible for 1.4 miles of the preliminary design of US 41 mainline.

This project was the first interchange to be built in Brown County as part of the overall US 41 corridor reconstruction project. Roundabouts were installed at four intersections along Scheuring Road. An ADA compliant shared use path for pedestrians and bicyclists was also included in the design, allowing safer travel conditions. Structural work included preparation of preliminary structure plans and structure survey reports for five bridges and two box culvert extensions as well as final plans for a two-span, prestressed girder bridge on County F and three retaining walls. The public outreach efforts for Community Sensitive Design decisions and traffic management were important to the advancement of the project. DAAR’s extensive coordination between nine consulting firms, municipalities, utility agencies, and the public was a key element in making this project a success.
