DAAR was selected to provide freeway design services for reconstruction of the I-94 and County KR interchange in Racine County, WI. This interchange was part of the 35-mile, I-94 North-South Freeway project from the Illinois State Line to the Mitchell Interchange in Milwaukee.
Due to existing substandard structure clearance, the I-94 mainline profile needed to be raised approximately 2.5 feet. County KR was reconstructed to 1-lane in each direction with a 30-foot median. The I-94 structures were constructed to accommodate future expansion of County KR to four lanes. The interchange is located on the section line and the county line between Racine and Kenosha counties. Public involvement consisted of working with local officials from six different government entities, including the Towns of Paris, Somers, and Yorkville, the Village of Mount Pleasant, Racine County and Kenosha County.
